What Are the Functions of the Revenue Department?
The Revenue Department plays a vital role in the administration and management of land and revenue-related matters in India. Its primary responsibilities include maintaining accurate land records, collecting land revenue, ensuring timely payment of taxes, and resolving land ownership issues. The department also oversees land surveys, property registration support, mutation of records, and implementation of land revenue laws in accordance with the Constitution of India and respective State Revenue Codes. In recent years, disaster management has become an important responsibility of the Revenue Department, including coordinating relief, rehabilitation, and compensation during natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, droughts, and earthquakes. By maintaining transparent land administration and supporting public welfare initiatives, the Revenue Department helps ensure legal compliance, efficient governance, and sustainable development across urban and rural areas.
